Srinagar: Several areas of Tailbal here were partially submerged after a cloudburst in the upper reaches of Dachigam mountain range triggered flash floods.
According to locals, the areas like Khwajabagh, Naid Mohallah, Astanpora, Iqbal Mohallah, Kashipora, and Sheikh Mohallah Shanpora were affected by the floods triggered by a cloud burst during the intevening night.
“Gushing water got into our houses due to which we got trapped. Many trees were uprooted and crops damaged in different areas,” locals said.
State disaster management authority (SDMA) rushed men and machinery to the spot early this morning. Rescue teams went to many houses in the boats to look for any trapped as the water had raised up to one floor at some low-lying areas.
The authorities have opened the gates of the nallahs near foreshore road to channel the water in the lake which has reduced the water level to some extent.
“The water is receding now but initially it was up to 4-5 feet,” said Gulzar Ahmad from Tailbal.
Amir Ali, Director state disaster management authority (SDMA) told Kashmir Reader that the situation was under control and people need not to panic.
