SHOPIAN: Government forces on Monday launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) at Harmain village of Shopian after “intelligence inputs” about presence of militants in the village.
Eyewitnesses told Kashmir Reader that in the afternoon a joint team of forces comprising 34 RR of army, special operation group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, and 14th battalion of central reserve police force (CRPF) cordoned off the village and conducted searches in several localities, but didn’t find any trace of militants.
A police official said that the operation was called off in the evening when no militant was found.
Local sources told Kashmir Reader that soon after the forces were deployed, youths from adjoining villages arrived and began hurling stones on government forces This led to clashes during which government forces fired tear smoke shells and stun grenades. There were no reports of any injuries on either side.
