Bar worried over worsening conditions at Central Jail

Srinagar: J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar has expressed serious concern over the worsening of conditions in Central Jail, Srinagar and shifting of prisoners to jails in far flung areas of Jammu.
In a statement issued here, the Bar raised concerns over denial of medical aid and assistance to inmates and non-production in courts of under-trials, which was causing delay in the disposal of their cases, besides inadequate and poor quality food, “leaving them with no option but to go on an indefinite hunger strike”
The Bar demanded that the team constituted by the High Court for visiting the jails, after every two months, should immediately visit Central Jail, Srinagar and also other jails of the State, to find out as to how the grievances of the inmates of the jails are redressed.
“The Bar Association has also decided to bring the apathy of the inmates of Central Jail Srinagar, to the notice of the High Court which is already hearing a PIL filed by the Bar Association in 2011, for improving the jail conditions…”
