BANDIPORA: A man accused of attempted rape on a minor girl has been arrested on court orders, 31 years after he allegedly committed the crime, here in Bandipora.
In an FIR No. 120 dated 15 July of the year 1987 at PS Bandipora, the man is accused of kidnapping the minor from Rampora village and attempted to rape her.
The complainant, the girl’s father who worked as an agent in the court, in the FIR states that, on returning home he witnessed his minor child frightened with bite marks on her cheeks from which blood was oozing out. On asking her the reason the victim, her child remained mute.
After suspecting something wrong, the girl’s mother forced her to speak, to which she narrated the ordeal and said that the accused “picked me up in his lap when I was playing with my friends near a spring, he then took me to the nearby paddy fields and undid my pajamas and got up on me, he then bite my both the cheeks with his teeth, I cried and after that the accused let me go and I began running towards home, he also threatened me not to reveal this to anybody, if she did so, the accused will kill her”.
In the charge sheet to the court, the accused has been charged with attempted to rape and kidnapping of a minor child with sections, 376, 511 RPC.
According to sources, the accused served in the Border Security Force and completed his service which he began soon after committing the crime.
The case remained in abeyance due to absence of a sessions court in Bandipora, so the hearing was shifted to Baramulla court where it remained unheard. In 2008, when the court of principal and sessions judge was granted to Bandipora, the complainant again turned to court. Some days back the court opened the file and directed the police to arrest the accused who is now lodged in police station Bandipora. The court will now record the victim’s statement who is now a mother.
