SRINAGAR: Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) has expressed grief over the demise of Mohammad Shafi Shah, uncle of party’s incarcerated chairman Shabir Shah.
Mohammad Shafi Shah, of Anantnag breathed his last at his ancestral home early Sunday. He was the younger uncle of Shabir Shah.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family and its chairman, Shabir Shah, JKDFP secretary general Moulana Mohammad Abdullah Tari in a statement said, “Shabir Shah lost his one more close relative while being in jail and could not attend his funeral prayers. When the wife of Mohammad Shafi Shah passed away some years back, Shabir Shah was in jail and could not even attend her last rites.”
He said the ‘Prisoner of Conscience’ has spent 31 years of his life in different jails nourishing his political ideology. “The irony is that he was never provided an opportunity to participate in his relatives’ last rites who passed away whenever Shabir Shah was behind bars,” he said.
“This is yet another tactic to break the political will of Shabir Shah who advocates right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and has been imprisoned in Delhi’s infamous Tihar jail since past one year,” Moulana Tari said.
Tari prayed for the departed soul and expressed sympathy with the relatives of Shabir Shah.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani in a statement expressed grief over the demise of Shah’s uncle. He prayed for the departed soul and extended condolence to the bereaved family.
