CHARAR-I-SHARIEF: Residents of Charar-i- Sharief have alleged use of sub-standard material in the road repair work started recently.
The work was started after reports about dilapidated condition of Charar-I- Sharief road was carried by this newspaper on July 3.
According to locals, the macadamisation has not been able to sustain even for a week, as the contractor “is not following the standards of road building”.
“On Thursday morning an hour long rain damaged recent macadamized patches of the road turning it into a cesspool again” a resident from Nagam area said.
They also alleged that the contractor was using “used engine oil” in place of bitumen.
“See the condition of the road is no better than earlier, and it seems officials are cooperating with contractors to make people suffer,” Shakeel Ahmad another resident told Kashmir Reader.
They complained that earlier too, substandard macadamisation was done on the patch, and the road developed cracks and damages very quickly.
“These small potholes turn into the big dams during the rainfall, we are requesting the contractor to use standard material so the road can last in good condition for at least this season but after just three days of macadamisation road has started to develop cracks” Mohammad Saleem, a local resident said.
Executive Engineer, R&B division Chadoora, Mufti Imran told Kashmir Reader that he was out of station but would convey the issue to the Assistant Executive Engineer.
