Shutdown, protests in Kupwara against boy’s killing

Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed in north Kashmir’s Kupwara on Friday against the killing of a minor boy of Batergam.

Reports said that protests were also held in Kralepora, Trehgam, Kupwara, Gulgam and Batergam areas of the district against the killing.

Local sources said that passenger traffic is off the roads while as shops and business establishments closed in the area.

Umer Farooq Malik (8) son of Farooq Ahmad Malik, resident of Batargam village of Kupwara went missing when he left home on Monday afternoon, family sources said.

Body of the boy was recovered last evening in Gushi village with serious burn injuries. Witnesses said that one of the hands of the boy was also cut.

Police have already constituted a SIT to investigate the killing.
