Missing Kupwara boy’s body recovered

Srinagar: Body of a minor boy who was missing from past four days was found last evening in an injured state in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Umer Farooq Malik (8) son of Farooq Ahmad Malik, resident of Batargam village of Kupwara went missing when he left home on Monday afternoon, family sources said.

They said that Umer went for playing with other children but did not return home.

The family and other neighbours started his search however failed to trace his whereabouts.

On Tuesday family registered a missing complant with the police, they said.

As the search for the boy was on some locals spotted the body in the orchards of Gushi village with serious burn. Witnesses said that one of the hands of the boy was also cut.

Soon after the news reached his native village, hundreds of people including his family and relatives reached the spot and identified the body, local sources said adding later people staged strong protest against the police and even shouted anti India and pro freedom slogans.

The body was later handed over to family after legal formalities.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance and registered a case FIR No. 192/2018 under section 302, 363 RPC in this regard.

Meanwhile, Police have constituted a SIT to be headed by the ASP Kupwara and supervised by the SSP Kupwara to investigate the case, police said in a statement.
