Sopore: Two bike-borne men opened fire on a police patrol near the Bypass crossing in Sopore on Thursday afternoon, but no loss of life or injury was reported. The suspected militants escaped on their bike and a search operation launched by government forces in and around Sopore town was called off after a couple of hours when no trace of the attackers was found.
RN Sekhu, commanding officer of CRPF’s 179 battalion, told Kashmir Reader that the attack was carried out on policemen deployed in the town in view of the visit of Dr Farooq Abdullah, President of the National Conference.
Superintendent of Police Sopore confirmed the attack and said that the police retaliated to the attack but the militants escaped.
The search operation was carried out from Sopore Bypass crossing to Nowpora village. It ended peacefully a couple of hours later with no contact established with the suspected militants.
