BARAMULLA: A pro-freedom activist and former militant, Gulam Hasan Malik popularly known as Noor Khan, was laid to rest at his village, Pehlipora Uri on Wednesday morning, family sources said. Noor Khan died while in detention at Kotbalwal jail under Public Safety Act (PSA).
Hundreds of people participated in his funeral prayers. Noor Khan passed away at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu on Tuesday afternoon where he was moved to after he complained of chest pain at Kotbalwal jail.
In 90’s he became a militant, famous with the code name Noor Khan, which stuck to him for life, with many knowing him by the name rather than his original name. He spent a lot of time in different jails.
Originally, a resident of Gulistan village of Narvaw Baramulla He later migrated to Pehlipora village of Uri, where he was living from past several years.
On Jan 20, Noor Khan was arrested by Baramulla police and later shifted to Kotbalwal Jail Jammu on Jan 27 under Public Safety Act (PSA).
