Militants attack police patrol in Sopore, search operation launched

Srinagar: Government forces have started a combing operation in Sopore town of Baramulla district after suspected militants attacked a police party this afternoon.

Two bike-borne men opened fire upon a police patrol near Bypass crossing in Sopore this afternoon, official sources told Kashmir Reader.

However, no policemen was injured in the surprise attack, they added.

RN Sekhu, commanding officer of CRPF 179 battalion told Kashmir Reader that the attack was carried on the policemen deployed in the town in view of National Conference (NC) Patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah’s visit.

“We have started a combing operation in the area to nab the attackers,” Sekhu added.
