Students block Sonamarg highway against insufficient transport

KANGAN: Students of different educational institutions of Sumbal area in Ganderbal district held a protest on Tuesday against non-availability of transport facility in the area.
A large number of students, both boys and girls, assembled on the Srinagar-Leh highway blocking vehicular moment for hours.
Raising slogans, the students demanded regular transportation facilities, and alleged harassment from transporters. They alleged that due to non-availability of transport facility they get late to their schools and back every day.
They also alleged that the bus and mini bus operators were not giving student concession to them, and resort to forced de-boarding, when students complain.
They demanded transport facility between Ganiwan and Gund during school opening times.
They protesting students asked the district administration to solve the issue, adding that otherwise they would be forced to block the highway again for long hours.
A police team assured the students that their issues will be resolved at the earliest, after which they dispersed.
