SRINAGAR: The promotion of faculty members at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura has raised eyebrows as some aspirants have accused the present administration of dropping them even as the Apical Selection Committee (ASC) of the Institute had cleared their names for promotion last year.
The promotion list, a copy of which is with Kashmir Reader, has been issued by the present Director, Dr Omar Javed Shah, on June 19, days after an eminent medico and former director SKIMS Prof M S Khuroo was replaced as a member of the SKIMS Governing Body and ASC vice-chairman by former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.
The dropped candidates have questioned the timing of the order as well as the appointment of close associates of the present director.
They alleged Shah was not a part of the SKIMS interview panel which cleared the promotion list of faculty members for various posts in the institution in August last year. However, according to them, the list was “tampered with” later on when Dr Ahangar and Dr Khuroo were out of the scene.
“Some of the names have been dropped as part of ‘personal vendetta’,” an aggrieved aspirant told Kashmir Reader, wishing anonymity.
He said the selection panel has cleared his name on the basis of his “excellent” Annual Performance Report (APR) and pioneering publications, as informed by some committee members after the conclusion of the interview. However his name was later dropped, without any reason furnished for the same.
“I was shocked to see the list without his name. After some days, I was informed by an insider that the list has been tampered with and five doctors have been dropped by the present director on the instruction of a blue-eyed doctor,” the aspirant alleged.
As per sources, another aspirant has sought details of the interview process under RTI which the authorities had denied so far.
“The officials have adopted dilly dallying tactics to deny us the information sought from them. They have apprehension that their wrongdoings will be exposed,” the aspirant said.
Director SKIMS Dr Omar Javed Shah denied that there was any personal vendetta in the selection process.
“Whosoever was selected was based on merit and recommendations of Apical Selection Committee. Some of the aspirants might have been dropped due to some lacuna in the performance and promotion criteria,” he said.
“The aggrieved doctors should approach me if they feel any wrong has happened in the process. I will try to convince them,” he said.
