Pampore: Heavy rains coupled with winds created panic in Pampore town and blew away roofs of many houses Monday morning.
Residents said that rains entered the rooms of most houses, and it was so fast that people could not get any chance to save their essential commodities.
After the rains, a wind storm blew away roofs of many houses.
“The tin sheets were even collected about 50 metres away from the houses” said a local, adding that they felt that it was doomsday for them.
The residents said almost all houses in the town were affected by the rainstorm.
Revenue officials visited Namblabal in Pampore town and took stock of the losses.
“ So far we have calculated that the total loss due to the rainstorm and windstorm was more than Rs 35 lacs and can be even higher as they were yet to visit some families,” said a revenue official.
“It seemed we would not survive as the rain was so immense that it looked it would get us washed away,” a local resident said.
