Women block highway to protest water crisis

Baramulla: People of Ushkora village in Baramulla on Saturday held a protest against shortage of drinking water in the area.
Sources said that a large number of people mostly women who live in Ganie Mohla, Arif Mohla and Bhat Mohla localities in Ushkora took to the streets and staged a protest. The women protesters blocked the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad national highway for some time and shouted slogans against the authorities.
The protesting women said that there is acute shortage of water in the three localities of Ushkora village and they are being forced to get water from other areas. They said that they had appealed to authorities to look into the matter several times but no heed was being paid to their complaints.
A team of Baramulla police reached the spot where the women had blocked the highway and cleared the road. The protesting women later submitted a letter to Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to address their problem.
