Srinagar: Seven people were killed and 26 injured in a landslide at Sihar Baba, a picnic spot in Reasi district, on Sunday after a loose rock fell down on the devotees who were taking bath at a waterfall.
According to police officials, the incident occurred at 3.30 pm when dozens of people were taking a bath at the waterfall.
“Seven people have been killed and 24 others have got serious injuries. All the injured have been shifted to Jammu after they were given first aid at district hospital,” said Tahir Bhat, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Reasi.
“The condition of three injured is critical. The area has been sealed and no tourist is being allowed to visit the place,” he added.
Sihar Baba is a tourist place with a waterfall on the bank of Chenab river. Hundreds of pilgrims bound for Vaishno Devi, besides locals, visit the place.
