19 forest smugglers arrested in Sopore: Police

Sopore: Sopore police on Thursday claimed to have busted 19 notorious smugglers here involved in various forest theft cases and said they were evading their arrest for a long time.
The arrested smugglers were identified as Bilal Ahmad Lone, Ali Mohammad Lone, Mohammad Afzal Lone, Tariq Ahmad Rather, Riyaz Ahmad Lone, Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, Abdul Gaffar Lone, Habib-ul-lah Sheikh, Ashiq Hussain Lone, Abdul Rashid Lone, Ashiq Ahmad Lone, Manzoor Ahmad Lone, Fayaz Ahmad Lone, Firdous Ahmad Lone, Khursheed Ahmad Lone, Sajad Ahmad Lone, Bashir Ahmad, Bashir Ahmad Lone, Shahzad Ahmad Lone, all residents of Rajpora Sopore.
“There are several smuggling cases registered against many forest smugglers in various police stations of Sopore, who were evading arrest. However, from last few days our police team continuously raided the areas like Rampura and Rajpora, in dense forests, and arrested 19 accused from different spots, who are involved in forest smuggling,” senior police official told media reporters here.
“We have lodged FIR’s against these smugglers and investigation has been taken up. With the arrest of these smugglers as many as 12 forest theft cases will be challenged before the court of law,” he said.
