Srinagar: Low speed (2G) internet services were restored in south Kashmr’s Shopian district late last night after seven days of suspension, local sources said.
Official sources confirming the restoration of low speed internet told Kashmir Reader that the services were barred in Shopian on June 7 after three youth including a minor girl were killed in army firing at Hawoora village of Kulgam district.
Later the services were restored on July 9 evening but were soon snapped after a gunfight between militants and government forces broke out at Kundalan village on July 9, they said. Two militants were killed in the said gunfight while as a class 9th student was killed in clashes with forces.
Snapping of internet services is a routine in Kashmir valley in particular whenever there is a civilian or militant killing.
