LeT attack on CRPF leaves two personnel dead, two others and civilian injured

Anantnag: Two personnel of the CRPF, among them an ASI, were killed on Friday after militants opened fire at a deployment of the paramilitary force here in Achabal area of Anantnag district. Two other CRPF personnel and a civilian were injured in the firing.
The slain CRPF men have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector ML Meena and Constable Sunder Kumar. The injured include Head Constable Hukum Singh, Constable Madan Lal, and the civilian, Ghulam Nabi Lone.
Hours after the attack, militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) issued a statement claiming the attack.
The attack was carried out at about 10:45 AM in Sheerpora area of Achabal, some 13 kilometres from main town Anantnag.
The militants, on board a vehicle – which is yet to be identified – opened indiscriminate fire at CRPF personnel deployed in the area.
The CRPF men, as per sources, did open retaliatory fire but the militants had fled by then, leaving four men of the CRPF and a civilian injured.
“The injured were immediately rushed to hospitals. Two CRPF men and the civilian were taken to Anantnag district hospital and the other two CRPF men to the army’s base hospital in Srinagar,” a senior police official told Kashmir Reader.
Constable Sunder Kumar was declared brought dead at Anantnag district hospital and ASI ML Meena was declared dead at army’s base hospital, the police official said.
Following the shootout, intense searches were carried out in Achabal area in a bid to trace out the attackers.
“We are still trying to locate the militants,” the police official said.
