Clashes in Trehgam after march to graveyard blocked

Kupwara: A day after the funeral of Khalid Ahmad Malik who was killed in army firing, clashes erupted in Trehgam area of Kupwara on Friday afternoon after a large number of people from the youth’s village took to the streets and held protests against his killing.
Shouting slogans, the people marched towards the graveyard where they were scheduled to offer special prayers for Khalid Ahmad and for other martyrs on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, but government forces deployed in strength did not allow them to march to the graveyard, resulting in clashes.
Angry people hurled stones and rocks on government forces, who responded with tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse them.
Two brothers of the slain Khalid are in Jammu and Kashmir Police and a third brother works for the Indian Army.
