Youth injured in clashes at Shopian gunfight spot

Shopian: A youth has been injured in clashes that broke out between protesters and government forces near the encounter spot in Kundalan village here.

Scores of locals took to the streets in Kundalan and staged protest after a joint team of army, Special Operations Group (SOG) of police and CRPF cornered militants and engaged them in a fire fight, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

The government forces, they said, burst tear smoke shells to disperse the angry protesters.

“The protesters pelted rocks at the government forces sparking off clashes. Many people were injured in the clashes,” witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

Medical Superintendent, district hospital Shopian Dr Zahoor Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that a youth with a bullet injury was brought to hospital for treatment. The youth, he said, has been referred to Srinagar hospital for treatment.

The clashes between the government forces and the protesters were going on when the last reports came in.
