SRINAGAR: Blaming New Delhi for “chaotic” and “explosive” situation in state, Hurriyat Conference (G) general secretary Ghulam Nabi Sumji on Monday said the Jammu Kashmir has been turned into a police state where people are killed “mercilessly” and detained on “frivolous” charges.
In a statement, Sumji said New Delhi is carrying out “genocide” in Kashmir under a well-thought-out plan. He said the people are peacefully pursuing their right to self-determination.
Sumji was addressing mourners in Howra Redwani, Kulgam where three youth including a teenage girl Andleeb was killed in forces’ shootout.
Paying tributes to slain youth Shakir Ahmad Khandey, Irshad Majid and Andleeb, Sumji said “it is a very heart wrenching incident and we want to ask the international community that we are being killed and what is the reason that instead of coming to our rescue the world community is maintaining silence?”
Meanwhile, Sumji decried the arrest and shifting of Dukhtaran-e-Millat chairperson Aasiya Andrabi, her two associates including Nahida Nasreen and Fahmeeda Sofi, and said, “It is extremely unwise to deny political space and muzzle genuine voices. It is highly deplorable that even women political leaders and activists are booked against frivolous and fake charges. India and its stooges have crossed all limits.”
He appealed world human rights organisations to take cognisance of the plight of Kashmiri detainees.
