JCO, soldier injured in Shopian encounter

Shopian: An army officer and a soldier were injured in a fierce encounter that broke out in Kundalan village here early this morning.

Army’s 34 RR, Special Operations Group (SOG) of police and CRPF laid a siege around Kundalan village in the wee hours today after receiving information about the presence of militants, reports said.

When the joint team started advances, the militants hiding in a residential house opened fire upon them. The joint team returned the fire triggering off a fierce encounter.

In the exchange of fire, a junior commissioned officer and a soldier were injured. The JCO has been removed to army’s 92 Base hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment, reports said.

The exchange of gunfire was going on when the last reports came in.
