Srinagar: The department of Politics and Governance, Central University of Kashmir on Monday organised a book release-cum-discussion programme at Nowgam-III academic block of the varsity here.
The book Kashmir: History, Politics, Representation (Cambridge University Press, 2017), edited by Prof Chitralekha Zutshi was released on the occasion. Prof Chitralekha Zutshi is James Pinckney Harrison Professor of History at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia.
According to a statement issued here, Prof Noor Ahmad Baba chaired the event, which was attended by faculty members of the varsity.
Prof Baba appreciated the work as a handy reference for many topics related to Kashmir on which ready material is not available yet.
Dr Khalid highlighted the path breaking nature of the book. He emphasized on the fact that the present work fills the gap on the existing literature on Kashmir, challenging the meta-narratives and focussing on the period before 1990s.
Prof Zutshi in her remarks explained the objective of her work. She hoped to make scholarship a part of the ongoing public discourse on Kashmir, which also help and guide policy makers.
