Shopian: Two unidentified militants were killed while two army men, including an officer injured in a fierce gun-battle in Kundalan village here this morning.
A joint team of army’s 34 RR, Special Operations Group (SOG) of police and CRPF in the wee hours today appeared in Kundalan village and launched cordon and search operation, reports and officials said.
When the search team started advances, militants hiding in a residential house opened random fire upon them in a bid to break the cordon.
The joint team, reports said, returned the fire triggering off a fierce encounter. In the exchange of fire, a junior commissioned officer and a soldier were injured. The JCO was removed to army’s 92 Base hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment, reports said.
Reports said that as the gun-battle turned intense, the government forces zeroed in the residential house killing at least two holed up militants.
Director General of Police Dr SP Vaid told Kashmir Reader that two militants have been killed in the encounter. He said that the identity of the militants was being ascertained.
