Ex-Sarpanch’s son among 4 held with drugs, rifles in north Kashmir

Srinagar: Four people, including son of a former Sarpanch were arrested along with drugs and assault rifles in the frontier Kupwara district of north Kashmir, police said on Monday.

A joint team of police and 124 battalion BSF intercepted two vehicles at a naka in Sadpora area of Karnah in Kupwara district, a police spokesman said. During searches, the spokesman said, approximately 12 kilogram of contraband substance and 2 AK-56 rifles, 2 magazines and AK 56 rounds were recovered from the two vehicles.

Police arrested all four people after recovering drugs and arms from their possession. The arrested men have been identified as Rafiq Ahmad and Zakir Hussain, residents of Nawagabra and Mushtaq Ahmad Malik and Shabir Gakhad of Hajitarah Karnah.

“All the four persons have been arrested under case FIR No. 45/ 2018 u/s 8/21 NDPS Act and 7/25 I.A. Act, and 13 ULA registered in PS Karnah. Further investigations are going on,” the police spokesman added.
