SRINAGAR: Governor NN Vohra convened a high-level meeting at Raj Bhavan on Saturday to review the security situation in Kashmir Valley in wake of the killing of three civilians in Kulgam. The Governor especially invited Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, Northern Army Commander, to participate in the discussion.
Expressing deep anguish at the loss of civilian lives, including of a teenage girl, the Governor reiterated in the meeting the vital importance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to avoid incidents of civilian casualties and collateral damage, even in situations of extreme provocation. He also re-emphasised the crucial importance of sustained collaborative action and synergy between the armed forces and the state police with the civil administration in dealing with difficult situations, particularly to ensure against the loss of civilian lives.
The Governor was briefed by the heads of all security forces on issues relating to security management and the arrangements made for the safe conduct of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.
Besides the Northern Army Commander, the meeting was attended by the three Advisors to the Governor — BB Vyas, K Vijay Kumar and Khurshid Ganai — and by SP Vaid, Director General of Police; Umang Narula, Principal Secretary to Governor; RK Goyal, Principal Secretary Home; Lt Gen AK Bhat, GOC XV Corps; AG Mir, ADGP, CID; Muneer Khan, ADGP, Home Guards, Security and Law and Order; Baseer Khan, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; SP Pani, IGP, Kashmir; Zulfiquar Hasan, IG, CRPF (Ops) Kashmir; Ravideep Singh Sahi, IG, CRPF Kashmir; and Sonali Mishra, IG, BSF.
