BARAMULLA: A team of army, CRPF and police launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Sheeri area of Baramulla in the wee hours on Saturday, during which door-to-door searches were conducted.
Sources said that the government forces cordoned off Dar-ul-Uloom Colony in Sheeri before conducting searches in every house. The CASO was later withdrawn after no militant was found in the locality.
“Panic gripped the inhabitants of Dar-ul-Uloom Colony when troops, carrying heavy arms and with their faces covered, knocked on our door and asked our family members to step out of the house. Then they searched all the rooms, even those where some of our family members and small children were sleeping,” a resident said.
He said that the troops told people that they had information of some militants hiding in the locality. “But we told them that there are only family members and no militant in our homes,” the resident said.
Sheeri is almost five kilometres from main town Baramulla and lies along the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad national highway.
