Baramulla: The beneficiaries in frontier tehsil Uri in north Kashmir said that they were asked to construct toilets by Rural Development Department under Sawach Baharat Mission (SBM) from their own expenses, but are yet to receive the construction cost from past six months.
The complaints were received from far flung villages of Hathlanga, Soora, Mothal, Silikote and Balkote villages in Uri tehsil, while the people of other villages also bring same complaints.
The SBM was aimed to achieve sanitation in the country and was launched by Government of India across the country. The construction of toilets was aimed to stop open defecation especially in the rural areas.
An inhabitant Farooq Ahmad Bhat said that the department sanctioned the construction of toilet for an amount of Rs.12000 which was also sanctioned. He said that they are moving from pillar to post to get it released but unfortunately the concerned officials are not taking the issue seriously.
Block Development Officer (BDO) Uri Mohammad Shafi Shiekh when contacted by this reporter said that due to non-availability of funds, payments were not released in some areas. He assured that the money to beneficiaries will be released in a weeks’ time.
