Chadoora: Scores of protestors under the banner of Land Owners Welfare Committee Budgam held a protest against the payment of low rates for their land required for ring road here on Friday.
Protestors said that the government is taking land against their will at very low rates for the supposed ring road project and demanded legitimate rates for their land.
“Government is taking our land forcibly from us and we are not ready to surrender our land at very low cost as major chunk of the population is dependent this agricultural and horticultural land,” Mohd Sultan from Batapora chadoora said during a protest in the premises of SDM office Chadoora.
According to the protestors government is paying four times more money than actual rate to the farmers during the land acquisition in other states of India but the same is not followed for the farmers whose land is acquired for the ring road project in Jammu and Kashmir.
Moreover farmers said that they are aware that central Land Acquisition law of 2013 is not applicable in J&K, but at the same time constitution guarantees equal rights and opportunities for all the citizens.
Calling it total injustice with the farmers, protestors said that the fault lies in government who have not adopted the central Land Acquisition Act of 2013 or has not enacted its own land law by repealing 83 year old J&K Land Acquisition Act 1935 and said that the farmers are being made scapegoats .
“we have raised the issue at several forums about the injustice government is doing with us, we raised this issue many times with previous government and concerned officials but it seems nobody bothers to address our issue,” said a group of protestors while talking to Kashmir reader.
Protesting Farmers said that the government made promises with them that the legitimate rate will be given to the land acquired for the ring road project but nothing seems happening at ground to deliver justice.
Convener of the committee Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat during the protest also expressed his anger over the Land acquisition order made by the government and said that the farmers should be given good amount for their lands.
Earlier several protest were witnessed against the government for the land acquisition of ring road project in Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Jammu, Kathua and Samba and protestors were demanding good compensation for their lands.
Meanwhile DC Budgam Sehrish Asgar while talking to Kashmir reader said that a high-level Committee has been framed to redress all the issues of the farmers including land compensation and this is compulsory acquisition under section 17 where government gives 15% more rate than the actual rate of the land .
When asked that the farmers are alleging her for not negotiating with them like former DC was ready for negotiation, Sehrish said, “I don’t have any role in it, all directions are set by the government and earlier I don’t know whether the procedure was followed or not I can’t comment on that”.
“I want to convey that these decisions are not taken at district level because there are several districts which are covered in it and we have and all the decisions are made by government and we just have to implement them” she added .
Angry farmers said that they will not accept this hegemony of authorities and made it clear that they will not give their land to the project and will fight to meet their demand.
