SRINAGAR: Condemning the shifting of women resistance leaders Aasiya Andrabi and her associates Sofi Fehmeeda and Nahida Nasreen to New Delhi, the United Jihad Council (UJC) on Friday accused BJP of playing National NIA card for the forthcoming elections.
In a statement issued to KNS, UJC spokesperson Syed Sadaqat Hussain quoted the amalgam chief Syed Salahuddin as saying that “the tactics being used by the BJP to suppress the genuine voice here have been applied in the past as well but these measures only strengthen the freedom movement”.
He said BJP was playing NIA card for the forthcoming elections “which may help them for time being but would prove dangerous for the peace of the region”.
The UJC chief appealed international organisations, world human rights bodies and Indian civil society to take “notice of the human rights violations with Hurriyat leaders and activists in prisons especially Tihar jail”.
“Putting ailing lady Aasiya Andrabi along with her aides in such jails is tantamount to putting their lives at risk. It is fact that Aasiya’s health condition is already deteriorating and now putting her in such jails would further deteriorate her health,” he said
“New Delhi should understand that the suppressive measures have not succeeded. Better is to accept the ground reality and fulfill the promises made with the people of Jammu Kashmir,” Syed Salahuddin said.
