Srinagar: Militants on Friday offered gun salute to their former commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani in south Kashmir’s Tral, two days ahead of his second death anniversary.
Local sources said that a group of militants appeared at the grave of Burhan in broad day and fired many shots in air.
The sudden gunshots created a sort of panic in the area however people immediately came to know about the fact, they said.
Burhan, the popular Hizb commander was killed by government forces in Bumdoora village of Kokernag area on July 8, 2016.
His killing triggered a massive uprising in the valley resulting in the killing of more than one hundred civilians in forces actions.
Thousands of protesters sustained injuries and many lost their vision partially or completely after they were hit by pellets in their eyes.
Resistance leaders have called for a shutdown on Sunday to commemorate the slain militant commander.
