HDFC Bank signs agreement with CSC SPV to enable three lakh village entrepreneurs

New Delhi: HDFC Bank has signed an agreement with a Special Purpose Vehicle of CSC to enable three lakh Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) of the Common Services Centers to operate as banking correspondents of the Bank. Minister of Electronics and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of State for Electronics & IT Shri S.S. Ahluwalia along with the bank’s Managing Director, Aditya Puri and CSC SPV’s CEO Dr. Dinesh Kumar Tyagi were present during a media briefing. The Common Service Center (CSC) Scheme is an integral part of “Digital India” initiative of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. The CSCs are ICT enabled front end service delivery points at the village level enabling delivery of Government, Financial, Social and Private Sector services in the areas of agriculture, health, education, entertainment, FMCG products, banking, insurance, pension, utility payments, etc. CSCs are managed and operated by a village level entrepreneur (VLE). Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Under the agreement, VLEs of CSC will work as Banking Correspondent of HDFC Bank and support the Government initiative to promote financial inclusion and make banking services more accessible in rural areas.”
