Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Tuesday seized 100kgs polythene in different parts of city during an anti-polythene drive.
SMC has imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on numerous shopkeepers who had stocked and were selling goods in polythene.
The squad inspected Karan Nagar, Batamaloo, Lal Chowk Jehangeer Chowk and other areas, SMC press handout said.
SMC Commissioner Riyaz Ahmd Wani holds fortnightly anti polythene review meetings and had directed the polythene squad headed by Health Officer SMC DR Qazi Javaid to intensify the campaign and make sure proper awareness is being simultaneously created besides conducting market checks and inspections, statement added.
These drives will be conducted regularly and all the vendors, shoppers are requested to do away with the polythene for a healthier and safe environment, SMC Commissioner said in a statement.
