Bandipora: Heart wrenching scenes were witnessed at Bandipora district hospital on Sunday when four dead bodies of a single family, including two kids aged 9 and 7, their parents and driver were brought here. They all died in a road accident on their way to home near Tragbal area of Gurez after their vehicle rolled down into a deep gorge.
The family was heading home to Budugam village in Tulail area of border valley Gurez after eight years.
According to locals, Sajad Ahmad Lone, 40, the head of the family who died in the accident along with his wife and two kids, the son named Mouin-ul- Islam, 9, and daughter Arjumand Sajad, 7, was working as a teacher in Kangan from 2009. He married Rubeena from her native village in the same year and since then he was settled in Kangan.
On Saturday, the family had decided to visit their hometown after the gap of eight years. “They hired a Tata Sumo vehicle from Kangan and stayed for the night in Bandipora before heading towards Gurez on Sunday morning. The kids were also excited to visit their parents’ native village,” said a relative of Sajad, who had come to Bandipora hospital.
A police official at Pethakot who first received the information about the incident said that the vehicle bearing registration JK01F-9547 had lost its control and rolled down into deep gorge resulting in five deaths on the spot. The dead were identified as Sajad’s family, and driver Mohammad Iqbal of Saradab, Gurez.
A witness who retrieved the bodies from the vehicle and helped them bring to Bandipora hospital said that the vehicle was disfigured beyond recognition, “We broke the metal to get inside, but four passengers were already dead,” he said.
Block Medical Officer Bandipora, Dr Sayed Rehamn said: “The husband, wife and their two kids and a driver of the vehicle were brought dead to the hospital and another passenger who received head injuries has been referred to a Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.”
After completing medico-legal formalities, the bodies of were dispatched to their respective homes in Gurez and Kangan.
Police said that they have registered a case in this regard.
