SRINAGAR: Family members of a woman found hanging dead from a fan in mysterious conditions on Thursday at her home in Mahjoor Nagar area of Srinagar have accused her in-laws of murdering her.
Paramjeet Kaur, 29, who hails from Chanapora, was married to Manmeet Singh from Mahjoor Nagar for the last six years. Manmeet owns a jewellery shop at Hari Singh High Street Srinagar. The couple have a four-year-old son, and according to Paramjeet’s parents, she was expecting again.
Paramjeet’s parents said they received a call from her in-laws at around 3pm on Thursday conveying them about death of their daughter.
Accusing the husband and his family of “murdering” Paramjeet, they alleged that she was subjected to “domestic violence” at her in-laws house because of dowry demands.
“Paramjeet was continuously harassed at her in-laws and was beaten by her husband from the very first days of her marriage. They were demanding dowry from her,” said Barkat Kaur, a relative of the victim. “Her husband was a flirt and used to spend weeks outside of his house”.
The family accused Manmeet of having illicit relation with a relative, which they claimed, Paramjeet had come to know about.
“This is the reason she was killed. There were injury marks on her skull and ear,” a relative said.
The family has appealed the Governor to intervene in the matter.
“Police have made no arrests in this case yet, so we appeal N.N Vohra Sahab to intervene in the matter so that justice is served,” they said.
Station House Officer (SHO), Sadder, Raees Ahmad, said the victim was found hanging from the fan on Thursday and the body was sent for medical-legal formalities.
“The body of the deceased has been sent for autopsy. We are investigating the death under section 144 CrPc,” he said.
