ANANTNAG: At least three persons died and several injured in separate incidents in Kashmir Valley due to floods and landslides Saturday.
A teenager from Nagrota, Jammu, living in Tengpora area of Srinagar drowned in the flood channel at Bemina while trying to rescue a dog from drowning, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Asif Ahmed of Nagrota, Jammu.
“He along with his family was living in a makeshift tent at Tengpora here,” police said.
A video of him drowning went viral on Facebook as no one came to his rescue while he was struggling in the roaring flood channel.
An elderly man was killed and three women of his family were injured when a landslide hit the tent of a nomad family in Anantnag district.
The tribal family had pitched a tent at the foothills in Chatergul area, SHO Uttersoo Peer Ateequllah said.
The family from Reasi came under heavy landslide at Thimran-Brarinard of Anantnag District and one Mohammad Shafi Poswal lost his life where as at least four family members got injured, he said.
Police and volunteers retrieved the body after a long struggle and injured people were shifted to SDH Shangas for medical treatment, local sources said.
The injured persons were identified as Phoola, Nusrat Jan, Zakir Ahmad Khan and Nazia residents of Reasi Jammu.
Police said it was a tiresome rescue operation which took around nine hours.
In another incident in Kulgam, a renowned singer died after slipping into the Vaishaw Nallah at Checkpora village.
An official identified the deceased as Tariq Ahmad Dar, son of Rahman Dar, a resident of Checkpora Kulgam.
