SRINAGAR: Syed Ali Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference on Saturday termed the Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat’s statement that army carries out “people-friendly operations” as “a cruel joke” with the “subjugated” people of Jammu Kashmir.
A spokesperson of the conglomerate in a statement said on one hand, the forces have waged a war against people and on the other, the Indian army general terms these “inhuman and vile” operations as “people-friendly”.
Condemning such “false” statements, the spokesperson said the people of Kashmir “are living a miserable life under the shadow of an undeclared martial law”.
He said the resistance movement for the right to self-determination is an indigenous movement fully supported by the people of Kashmir. “So, General Rawat’s statement does not match with the ground situation,” he said and urged the Army chief to apprise his political leadership to shun rigidity and accept the “legitimate” formula of right to self-determination.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat has paid tributes to slain youth in Pulwama and Kupwara and condemned the killing of a minor boy Faizan in Pulwama.
