Srinagar: Director of Meteorological (MeT) Department Kashmir, Sonum Lotus, on Friday said that rains will continue to lash Kashmir parts till Saturday noon.
He, however, said that some parts in southern Kashmir will receive mild rainfall while heavy rainfall throughout the night is expected at several other places.
Lotus said that there is no threat of a major flood, although chances are of a mild flood at several places across Kashmir.
“The water level has been sharply increasing since morning, as there has been an increase of around one foot with each hour since 9am,” he informed.
MM Shahnawaz, Chief Engineer at the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, has asked people residing near streams to remain vigilant.
“In view of precipitation and forecast of rise in water levels, the people residing along tributaries (nallahs) in south Kashmir, especially Vaishnaw Nallah and Lidder Nallah, are advised to remain vigilant during the day and also at night today to avoid any sudden flood damages,” Shahnawaz said.
