Shopian: Three soldiers of the army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) were injured with splinters after militants lobbed a grenade on them at Ahgam village in Shopian district on Friday.
The attack took place near the Army Good Will School, which is adjacent to an army camp.
A police official said that militants, believed to be 2-3 in number, lobbed a grenade and opened fire on a group of army personnel when they were busy opening the school today morning. “In this incident, three army personnel sustained injuries. They were evacuated to hospital,” the police official said.
He said that the incident took place at about 8:40 in the morning. It was followed by a massive search operation to nab the attackers. People of Ahgam village said that the firing lasted for more than 15 minutes and created panic in the area.
A police handout issued for the press said, “Army personnel exercised maximum restraint to avoid any damage to civil population and students around. Police has registered a case in this regard and searches to nab the militants have been initiated in the area.”
