Shopian: Amid the protest call given by Anganwadi workers and hellpers association demanding hike in honourium,, the Anganwadi centers in valley are running dry of nutrition supplies since more than a year and half after the department of social welfare department failed to provide the supply to the centers.
According to the government documents, 13943 centers in valley have not been supplied any item since 2017. Insiders in the Integrated child Development Services (ICDS) said that the government’s decision for opting centralized purchasing of food items, allocation of tenders and sampling took long time due to which the services were halted.
An official from ICDS told Kashmir Reader that last year due to incomplete tender process the funds got lapsed and this year they hope services will be restored within a month’s time in all valley based Anganwadi centers.
Another official also said that in past the purchase was done at district level, now the same will be done at central level. “Supply order of ten items has been approved and within a fortnight the centers will have the supply,” he said.
Deputy Director ICDS, Kashmir, Rashida Akhter told Kashmir Reader that within 15 days the supply to the centers will be provided. “There was delay in acceptation of tenders and within in 15 days the matter would be solved,” she said
The food and nutrition supplies for the centers were meant to provide adequate nutritious food to the children belonging to poorer families through the centres based in villages and communities.
