Restaurant penalised for overcharging

SRINAGAR: Department of Legal Metrology Srinagar had received a complaint against a restaurant operating from Shalimar road for issuing a VAT bill in place of GST bill with incorrect date.
On the instructions of Controller, Legal Metrology J&K, field executives of legal metrology department conducted a surprise inspection of the restaurant premises in order to ascertain the genuineness of the complaint.
During the inspection, it was observed that the software on the billing machine/computer was not updated and the management of the restaurant overcharged on the packaged drinking water above the menu rate.
In this regard, hotel management was fined for Rs 5000/. Meanwhile management of the hotel has given an undertaking that it shall immediately update the software as per the new GST Act.
