SRINAGAR: Chairmen of both factions of Hurriyat Conference – Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq – have congratulated the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on his victory in landmark elections that also saw his Islamist-rooted AK Party and its nationalist allies secure a majority in parliament.
Geelani in a statement said, “We are all praise for Erdogan’s moral support to our cause and hope he will play a pivotal and impressive role for peaceful solution of Kashmir issue.”
“Our long and painful walk to freedom demands and deserved more practical and concrete steps from every freedom loving nation especially the collective forum of Muslim countries, so that there is an end to our sufferings and we are allowed to live an honourable and peaceful life,” he added.
Geelani said any favourable voice from anywhere acts as a soother and cements our resolve and commitment to continue fighting for our long-cherished goal of freedom.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq felicitated Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on behalf of the people of Kashmir, for being re-elected as the President of Turkey saying it is expected that Erdogan will continue to strongly support the people’s struggle for self determination in Kashmir the way he has been doing in the past.
Mirwaiz, who has been placed under house detention, in a statement said he is of the belief that Erdogan will continue to play his role in ensuring end to “grave rights abuses” taking place in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said Turkey is well respected among the comity of nations and being the basic member of OIC Contact Group on Kashmir, Turkey has always greatly supported and spearheaded “our just cause”.
He said that people of Kashmir and Palestine have high hopes from Turkey as this country has always advocated for the resolution of both the issues as per the wishes and aspirations of its people. He said Erdogan has always taken a stand for Muslims globally.
“The people of Kashmir have been suffering on all accounts over the past seven decades, witnessing the ultimate form of repression at the hands of lakhs of government forces of India. The issue is already registered with the world’s highest body – the UN – and in forums like OIC which has time and again passed many resolutions that call for resolving the Kashmir dispute, but the obstinacy of New Delhi continues to play spoilsport in resolution of one of the longest pending disputes,” he said.
Mirwaiz said it is incumbent upon the world community to intervene to resolve this humanitarian and political dispute and end the suffering of the people in Jammu and Kashmir and the prevailing uncertainty in the subcontinent.
