Youth shot in head during Srigufwara encounter dies

Anantnag: A youth who was hit by a bullet in the head when government forces opened fire on protestors near a gunfight site in Srigufwara area of Anantnag district on Friday, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday at SKIMS Srinagar.
The slain youth has been identified as Shahid Nazir Hajam, son of Nazir Ahmad, a resident of Sirhama village in Anantnag district.
Four Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen militants, said to be affiliated to the Islamic State (IS), a policeman and the civilian owner of the house from within which the militants were fighting, were killed in Friday’s gunfight. More than twenty others were injured, nine of them with bullets, in clashes with government forces.
A senior police officer from Anantnag confirmed that Shahid had succumbed to his injuries.
Shahid’s body was yet to reach his village when this report was being filed.
