Bar demands arrest of Lal Singh for threatening Kashmiri journalists

SRINAGAR: J&K High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) Srinagar has condemned the threatening remarks by BJP MLA Lal Singh to Kashmiri journalists for “creating a wrong narrative” about the kidnapping, raping and brutally murdering an eight-year-old nomadic girl at Rasana, Kathua Jammu.
In a statement issued here, Bar while termed the threatening remarks as an act of criminal intimidation, punishable under section 506 of the RPC and demanded the said MLA should be arrested and put behind bars for his “obnoxious and irresponsible” statement which has very serious ramifications.
The Bar Association also condemned the “opening of fire by army at Chidder village of Qaimoh Kulgam in which two militants were killed and dozen others got injured with bullet and pellet injured fired upon them by the ruthless forces”.
“On Saturday evening, these ruthless forces, during a cordon and search operation in Daramdoora village of Shopian, fired upon the protestors, in which one youth namely Jahangir Ahmad got severely injured and had to be shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for specialised treatment,” it said.
It also condemned the “firing of metal pellets and teargas shells on the protestors at Tawheedabad and Parray Mohalla of Hajin town on June 23, 2018, who had taken to streets, against the cordon and search operation in Hajin town, during the course of which, the army and police personnel damaged a number of vehicles and also broke window panes of several houses and caused injuries to five persons, who had to be shifted to Srinagar hospitals for treatment”.
The Association has expressed its grave concern over the attacking and ransacking of the houses of militants and “beating” of inmates at Kulgam and also arresting and detaining the relatives of many other militants at Tral-Bala, Tral-Payeen and Seer areas by the government forces and describes the same as “a worst kind of state terrorism”, which should be condemned by all those, who believe in rule of law and respect for human dignity and the rights of the people.
The Bar Association has appealed the international community to take notice of the “grave human rights violations” in Kashmir and for preventing such abuses, send their teams to the state to take stock of the situation and evolve ways and means to stop the “genocide” of the people of Kashmir.
It also impressed upon India to settle the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of the region, keeping in view the Security Council Resolutions guaranteeing them the right of self-determination.
