Srinagar: Several persons were injured on Friday during clashes with government forces at Mustafabad area of HMT, on the Srinagar outskirts, the native area of militant Dawood Sofi who was killed in an encounter in Srigufwara in the morning.
Eyewitnesses said that youth hurled stones on the police deployment in the area at around noon, triggering clashes that continued for the whole day till the body of Dawood reached Mustafabad.
The body of Dawood was handed over to his family at about 7 in the evening.
A resident of the area told Kashmir Reader that several youths were injured as government forces used teargas shelling and pellet firing to disperse the protesters.
Dawood, according to police, was heading the Islamic State Jammu Kashmir (ISJK), an affiliate of the Islamic State (IS).
Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid said that with the killing of four ISJK militants in Srigufwara area of Anantnag district, government forces have almost eliminated the cadres of IS in Jammu and Kashmir.
Vaid said that the militants killed on Friday were involved in several attacks on CRPF and JK Police, including the attack on CRPF at Lasjan Srinagar, and in the killing of a cop in Soibug Budgam and several other militant attacks.
