SRINAGAR: A trial court here directed SSP Sub Jail Pulwama, Superintendent Sub Jail Kuthua and Superintendent of Central Jail Srinagar to appear in the court on July 5, after the prosecution failed to produce the accused before the court in the DySP Ayup Pandith lynching case on the 9th time on Friday.
The court directed jail officials to appraise the court about their failure in producing the under-trial before the court. Parents and relatives of the accused were present in the court desperately hoping to meet their kin but were left high and dry.
The court also ordered that the defense counsels may examine the witnesses in absence of the accused.
However, the senior prosecuting officer expressed dissent and moved a hand-written application for deferring the proceedings.
The defence counsel again prayed before the Court for directions to jails authorities to produce the under-trials.
Defense counsel Shabir Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that the prosecution “deliberately failed to produce the accused with an aim and object of prolong the trial despite court directions which is a sheer violation of the court orders and hampers the process of fair trial ”.
The next hearing for the case has been listed for July 5.
