Hundreds attend funeral of slain head constable
SOPORE: Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral of Head Constable Habib-ul-lah Lone, 50, who succumbed at SKIIMS on Friday morning. He was critically injured in a militant attack near Dental College in Karan Nagar and was battling for life for a few days.
Habibullah was in coma after the deadly attack of June 14 in Kashmir’s capital when he was hit with a bullet in his head. He had been with the police department from the more than 20 years. Civil and police officers led by Director General of Police S P Vaid gathered to lay floral wreaths and pay rich tributes to the slain policeman.
A resident of Bomai village, Habibullah is survived by three daughters – Riffat Ara, 21, whose marriage was scheduled next week, Insha, a 10th class student and Rubeena, a student of 6th class – and two sons – Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din, 22, and Kaiser Ahmad, 26 – besides his wife and aged parents.
Lone was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard. “He was a kind man who used to take care of his family very well. The whole village and some people from adjoining hamlets have come to attend his funeral. It is so tragic, especially for his family,” mourner Adil Nabi told Kashmir Reader.
