Two militants, civilian, cop killed in Anantnag gunfight

Srinagar: Two militants, a civilian and a cop were killed in a gunfight at Khiram, Srigufwara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.

Many protesters were also injured in government forces action during clashes which broke out near the encounter site.

Earlier a joint team of army, SOG and CRPF laid a cordon in Nowshera Khiram in Srigufwara.

The militants opened fire on the search party triggering a gunfight which was going on when reports last came in.

In the initial gunfight, the house owner in which the militants were holed up, identified as Muhammad Yousuf Rather and his wife Hafeeza suffered bullet wounds, officials said.

Both the injured were immediately taken to nearby hospital where Rather succumbed to injuries, they added.

Two army men and a police cop from SOG namely Ashiq Hussain also received injuries, they said.
