Srinagar: Two militants have been killed so far in a gunfight at Khiram, Srigufwara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.
Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid confirmed the killing of two militants during the gunfight which started early today between holed up militants and government forces.
Sources said gunfight was still going on in the area amid massive clashes around the site resulting in injuries to many protesters.
Earlier a civilian, Mohammad Yousuf Rather and a cop were killed during initial exchange of fire.
A lady, Hafeeza wife of the slain Rather, a cop and two Army soldiers were also injured who are being treated.
The government forces cordoned off the area and started searches after specific information about the presence of militants.
The hiding militants opened fire on search party triggering gunfight.
Gunfights have resumed in Kashmir after a month long unilateral truce was ended by the Government of India some days back.
